Our Australia and New Zealand Travel Agents for the Winnipeg region were born and raised in the Lands Downunder. When planning your Australia vacation package, you are guaranteed to receive their specialized local knowledge… plus you can practice speaking like a Kiwi or Aussie when you arrive!
Here are some tips from our Australia Travel Experts on what you need to be mindful of when planning an Australia Vacation from Winnipeg.
1/ If you are a Canadian Citizen, you will need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visa when you vacation in Australia, attend a conference, or are on a business trip – your Australia Travel Agent can assist you with these. You must have at least six months of validity left on your passports from arriving back in Canada and declare any prior criminal records upfront. We advise having the visa issued before your airline ticket!
2/ We all know the weather in Winterpeg! If you are departing from Winnipeg Airport and traveling from other areas, i.e., The Pas or Brandon Manitoba, please leave yourselves plenty of time. It is always better to check in early at the airport- so you can relax- than start your holiday to Australia very stressed out!
3/ Flying times from Winnipeg -to Vancouver- Sydney, Australia, are approximately 18 and a half hours in one direction without the stopover included. We personally think Air Canada is your best option when departing from Winnipeg due to the connection times. Otherwise, if you plan a vacation to New Zealand on a combination trip, flying with Air New Zealand from Vancouver to Auckland and then onward to Australia is the best. Avoiding the USA is best when planning your flights to Australia from Winnipeg, as you will have many aircraft changes and a very long day!
4/Jet lag always hits the worst when flying home to Winnipeg after enjoying your tailor-made holiday in Australia. Always allow yourself an extra day or two before going back to work. Trust us; you will be happy with this suggestion!
5/ Always plan your vacation to Australia, so you arrive a day or two early if you plan a guided tour in Australia. This will give you time not only to adjust to the time zone but also not to stress if your flight is delayed when connecting to your coach tour. Of course, your Australia and New Zealand Travel Expert is always there to assist you with any problems with our 24/7 emergency number.
6/ Book early! We need time to plan and design you a once-in-a-lifetime customized holiday DownUnder. The earlier you book, the better your chance of staying in the best accommodation options and getting your first choice on small group tours. Australia can get very busy with conferences and other events these days- plus, you need to be mindful of the best time to travel to Australia as well. Don’t worry your Australia Travel Expert will guide you through it all and make it stress-free!
7/ Consider having a mixture of accommodations when planning a trip to Australia. Some domestic flights have tight luggage restrictions; if you are going for several weeks or more, you will need access to laundry facilities. Our Travel Specialists suggest a mix of apartment stays and hotels, and if you are really after a treat, then a luxury vacation stay on the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.
8/ Be aware of time zones! Just like Canada, not all areas of Australia have Daylight Saving. When on a flight, always listen to the flight attendant to check if the time has changed. Even states that sit above each other have different time zones during daylight saving time, i.e., Sydney and Brisbane.
9/ Keep an eye on the Winnipeg Airport website on your day of departure! You must double-check the Winnipeg Airport website departures to ensure your flight operates on time. Most airlines do not advise if there are any schedule changes or delays right before a flight date. If you discover your flight is delayed, speak up to the airline that is delaying you or contact your Australia Travel Specialist for assistance!
We look forward to designing your customized vacation from Winnipeg to Australia. We can tailor-make you a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime trip, whether planning an action-packed family holiday, attending a conference, celebrating a wedding anniversary, taking advantage of that well-deserved graduation gift, or finally relaxing on that luxury romantic honeymoon.
